Red River Gorge 10/2-10/4
Carl, Jeff, Jen and I trekked the 10 hours down to The Red for a weekend of sport climbing on some world class sandstone. We made it in to Miguel’s late Friday night and after breakfast on Saturday, were joined by Ellen and her friend at The Great Wall in Muir Valley. While Jeff and Carl started on a 5.10, the rest of us headed to Legends of Limonite—a beautiful 5.8 with an exciting start! We crushed a few other routes at The Great Wall (Edge-a-Sketch, Ohio Arts, Mamma Cindy, La Escalada) before moving to The Hideout to run up Boltergeist and proceed to The Solarium to attempt (and let Jeff crush) Manifest Destiny and Banshee before the sun went down.

We returned to Miguel’s for some well deserved pizza and Ale-8 after a day that included everything from 5.6-5.12b; slabby and overhung. We awoke Sunday morning to unfulfilled threats of chickens being thrown into others’ tents in lieu of wake-up calls and packed up for a quick breakfast and climbing. Sunday proved as beautiful weather-wise as Saturday and we spent the morning and early afternoon at Phantasia wall starting out on Pogue Ethics. While Jen and I climbed Pogue Ethics and cleaned it, Jeff and Carl split to climb Twinkie and Phantasia. We then regrouped to climb Overlord and stack the four of us on the ledge below the anchors for a group photo and a farewell to The Red until another weekend!
